This time from our web neighbor, ABCNEWS.com.
So what’s wrong with this picture? Nothing, really. Except here is the first paragraph in the story:
Americans were outraged earlier this year when imported pet food made hundreds of pets sick. But what if you found out that thousands of puppies are imported from Eastern Europe, South America and Mexico, and they’re already sick when they get here?
So why am I making such a big deal about this and ranting about how the story is spun? Through the type of dog photographed. Hmmm, I wonder WHY exactly, they chose a Shar Pei to visually portray a story about sick, imported puppies? I think you, the reader, are smart enough to make the connection between “sick puppies” and China, a country now so laden in lead, Chinese people won’t buy toys made in their own country.
The problem here is the story never mentions China as one of the country importing sick dogs. However, if someone were to just glance at the picture and the headline and never read the story their thought would be, “What? Now their sending us sick dogs on top of lead laden toys and bad dog food?”
My point exactly.
